Importing and Exporting Giving Information

When transitioning to or from Giving, you may be looking for a way to take your donation data with you. You might also want to export data to a CSV file for reporting or analytics. This article will help explain your options for importing and exporting Giving data.

Importing Giving Information

While Giving doesn't have a built-in tool to import a donor's giving history from another system, you have a few options for handling your previous donation information.

Third-Party Integrations

Some third-party companies offer donation migration services that allow you to import historical donation information into Giving.

There are also a number of donation platforms that offer integrations with Giving. While this list is not exhaustive, you can find a number of integrations in our Giving Product Integrations article.

Notice

Since these integrations are developed by third-parties, there may be an additional cost to use them. For questions and troubleshooting help for these integrations, it's best to reach out directly to each company directly for support.

Giving API

We offer a free, public API for Giving, which allows any company or developer to build an integration between your current system and Planning Center Giving. If you decide to go this route, you'll need to have a third-party developer set this up for you.

Manually Enter Donations

You can manually enter online donations made through your past system by setting up a custom payment source and entering them in batches. You can decide how specific or broad you'd like to set up the donation records.

For example, you can record a lump sum for overall giving for each donor or itemized donations for each donor.

Notice

If none of the options for importing or adding donations from another system works for your church's situation, you can issue two end-of-year statements to your donors this year: one from your old system and one from Giving. If you can export a record of past donations from your old system, you can keep it as a record outside of Giving.

Exporting Giving Information

If you need to dig deeper into your donation data, or if you're moving to another donation platform, you can export your Giving reports as a CSV file.

Here are some export options available in Giving:

  • Lists of donations can be exported from the Dashboard or Donations List. You can use filters to narrow down the results in the Donations List.

  •  Lists of donors  can be generated from Planning Center People, using criteria such as amount donated, fund type, or recurring donor status.

  •  Donor reports  provide information about donors that gave during a particular time period.

  •  Donor statements  provide donors with a list of all their successful donations over a given time period.

  •  Stripe payout reports  allow you to reconcile Stripe deposits (called payouts) to your bank account or general ledger.
